Profile: Chris Layser

Personal background
My name is Chris Layser. I am a thirty-something Network Engineer from Reading, Pennsylvania. After recieving my degree in Earth Sciences from Millersville University I somehow ended up in the I.T. field. Now I work for Nortel Networks' Rapid Response team. My hobbies include Astronomy and Music. Most of my planetary observation is done with my Celestron CR-150-HD 6" refractor telescope. I am currently a member of the Berks County Amateur Astronomy Society, the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers, the Planetary Society, the National Space Society, and the Planet Finder Club. Most of my musical "career" has been as the (upright, electric) bassist for such unsigned recording artists as Mystery Van, Frozen Poet, and the funk-jazz project Organic. Lately, I just play for my finacee Roberta and my golden retriever Chewbacca.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that SETI@home is an ingenius way to incorporate the assets of the large community that still thinks space exploration should be a national priority but has little opportunity to contribute. I cannot say for certain that I believe it will produce positive results, but if we don't persue this type of investigation, we will never know.
