Personal background
Well - I am a 34 year old, Network and Systems Administrator in Ottawa Canada. I am in to Computer Gaming, online RPG, writing, and music (Yip, I'm a musician too). I lead a pretty busy life - but have an interest in Life Elsewhere too! I've studied the stars since i was a kid, not that i'm an expert.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that E.T's exists... why not? We'd be ignorant and arrogant to believe we are alone! The universe is far to big to have ONLY ONE planet that sustains life! Heck, they are even saying that Mars can possibly be terraformed!! So, that's two possible planets in our solar system alone, that can potentially sustain life as we know it.

And so, if we are NOT alone (and we will assume that we aren't), then there are others like us - or unlike us - that may be wondering the same thing. Why not let others know we're out here!

I've been running SETI@home for 2 years - off and on - 24 hours a day now for the last 3 or 4 months! I figure, if all of us on the planet were to have our pc's analyse what we have transmitted - to see if we get a response.. it could cut our answer-time from 100 years to 10 years... who knows!! Why do we all use SETI??? Cuz the unknown facinates us!! That's why i do it!

Cheers!!

Al
