Personal background
Greetings earthlings, Phil\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s my name, I am a NZ born samoan guy from Auckland in New Zealand and proud of it. I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m a Sagittarian. I am thrilled to be a part of Seti@home and look forward to processing as many work units as i possibly can. I am a bit of a sci-fi person and love to watch programmes like star trek etc but probably the most intriugeing movie I have ever seen is Contact. I have always wondered and pondered over the night sky as far back as I can remember and I can never get bored of it. Im now in my early 30\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s and more excited and interested in the prospect and the possibility of someone or seti finally detecting a signal out there. I do believe that of course there is life out there and one day hopefully soon someone or even me! might detect that signal. My user name is \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"aklhope\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" whick basically is my city of Auckland and hope is just that, hope! Very soon now its most probable that soon a signal will be detected and when that day comes it will be truly an historic and exciting day for all mankind. I wish I was a radio astronomer, it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s something I always wanted to be so scientists like Gill Tarder is an inspiration to me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Star Trek, need I say more? Yes there is no doubt in my mind that extraterrestial life exsists out there. If anything I think it will be detected by a radio signal followed closely by a visual encounter. We must transmit the basic welcome message in universal code and all forms of visual and numerical communication just to let them know that intelligent life does exist out there.I do not think we need to transmit past histories and achievements of mankind. That can come later. Then of course our radio and television waves have been transmitting for about 50 years now but even that is a small distance of travel in space time. If there is a discovery of ET posible benefits may be that they are like us, a species not yet technologically advanced and therefore commit and share ideas if possible to achieve a technology together to combat safe, fast and effective interplanetary space travel. If they are hostile, well, what can I say? At least the human race has made an effort to make peaceful contact? I run seti@home because this the only way I can express or contribute to finding ET. At least I know that with Seti@home, I know that I am doing my bit to help in the ever tedious search of finding that signal, and I hope like many of us that I may at least find likely candidate.
