Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

I think it's probable that extraterrestrial life exists.
If humans are to discover it, they'll have to work quickly.
The main benefit of such a discovery is that we will stop thinking in such a
parochial way.


We should not transmit a beacon for others to find. By the time it propagates
to anywhere useful, humankind probably won't be here. We are better off putting
our resources into listening rather than shouting.


I run Setiathome because:

1) I have lots of spare CPU cycles
2) I think that it might work



My view of the project is that even if we find nothing, we can always say we
tried. Gainsaying is easy, building something is difficult. And if we do find
something, well, the rest will be history...
