Profile: Chaos Theory

Personal background
Graduated high school in '92, served 3 years in Army Intelligence, 4 years in college and now I'm a deputy sheriff for Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA (Western shore of Lake Michigan). I guess I've always been someone who liked to have the "inside" information, or simply to be involved with issues greater than myself. This initiative certainly qualifies...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm sure there is life-- even intelligent life out there. It might be a bit too far to be reached right now, or perhaps for millenia, but one day hopping stars will be as circumstancial as running to the grocery store for diapers. I believe Thomas Jefferson (and I could be wrong here) once said, "Everything that is worth inventing has been invented already". Obviously we laugh today, but one could make an argument along those lines now. Let's try, "everything that CAN be invented has been invented already." Science, I believe, is inching toward a roadblock with such things as practical intergalactic propulsion, teleportation, time travel, etc. It's one thing to teleport an atom, or phase-shift a microscopic piece of metal, but it's something entirely different to apply such technologies so that they would be survivable by complex biological organisms (us). I don't believe we've been visited yet, however I believe we will have to be in order to acquire the technologies that will allow us to detour our own scientific understanding. One good thing to note is that I will not be disappointed if I am proven wrong.
