Personal background
I'm a 17-year-old computer geek and I have five computers (two of which are operational). I run SETI when I'm not rendering in LightWave or compiling video into DivX (which as you know, takes a long time).

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterestrial life exists, but it's a matter of time before any form of communication from them has reached earth. I have no idea how we will find them, but I'm confident that we will eventually pull it off (probably not in my lifetime, though).

Benefits: If they are merely bacteria, we might get all the hillbillies to stop saying they have been abducted by aliens and cut down on the number of crop circles.

Dangers: World destruction.

I don't think it's possible for humans to produce any more of a beacon than we are transmitting with all the cell phones, TV broadcasts, and radio stations we are sending into deep space (then again, did you think of that?).

I run SETI@home because I like to be in the grand scheme of things. If something does happen, I want to be able to say I did something to help it... unless it means that the aliens we find intend on destroying the world (see "dangers").
