Personal background
From the first time I read Carl Sagan's book Contact (the original with 6 occupants) I have been facinated with the SETI program. Anything I can do to help satisfies my need for science. I have been a science fiction fan since I was a kid and now as adult love and appreciate science for what it has offered to our society.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Good questions:
Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it?
Yes, I do. I hope we find it in my lifetime. However, I believe first contact will take years to understand even after the event.

What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
The benefits and dangers are infinite and only limited by our imagination.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
Didn't we already do this with Voyager? I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a beacon message sent from the moon or the space station. As for content, remaining along the lines of the Voyager mission seems appropriate.

Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
I always wanted to be a scientist-but dad talked me into another career path (one I never took). Life leads us in strange directions sometimes. So processing data for the SETI project is the one small way I get to contribute. Thanks for the opportunity!
