Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that extraterrestrial life exists in the universe. Whether that life is intelligent or not is the big debate as ET life could be as simple as plant life.

The most likely way that humans will discover ET life will be leaving the confines of Earth and exploring outside our own solar system.

The benefits/dangers of a discovery would boil down to one topic...our health. ET life could promote the discovery of new disease fighting agents or the discovery could lead to new diseases period.

Transmitting a beacon should be done, if we haven't been doing it already. Remember the SCI-FI movies that tell of our TV transmissions being picked up by an alien race? I think that this would be the WRONG message to send to ET.

I run SETI@home mostly as a pleasant diversion to offset my other computer work. I think this project is fascinating and I wanted to help out any way I could.

Suggestions? If ET is found I think the SETI@home people should be the first to attend the greeting. After all, we are the only ones that truly believe.
