Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yep. Extraterrestrial life exists. Is it technological? Hopefully. Maybe 99.9% of all intelligent life prefers poetry and philosophy to electronic gadgets. Technology could be a dead end for developing species. After all, why keep evolving now we have refridgerators and back scratchers?

2. Absolutely! We should definitely transmit a beacon for others to find. They are probably tired of all that network programming. Maybe they aren't transmitting and are just waiting by the phone for us to call? Just listening is a pretty passive tactic for making contact. If we do transmit something, a better sign of our advancement would be ethical developments rather than technological ones. Of course, finding convincing signs of ethical development could be difficult.

3. SETI at home is just plain fun. Maybe I am doing a little bit to help in the search for extraterrestrial life. Also, it makes pretty pictures to watch.
