Profile: Dana & Judy King

Personal background
I'm a laboratory scientist and my wife is a nurse. We live in Lancaster, CA. We're in our late 40's, we enjoy traveling, reading, exercising, and my hobby is radio electronics - specifically, amateur radio.

Between the two of us, we have 4 adult kids who are living in various places around the country.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In my opinion, there is extraterrestrial intellegence, but I think it is highly unlikely that we will ever encounter it. In order to make some sort of contact, there would have to be some form of revolutionary propulsion system to speed us to the distant stars and allow us to survive the trip. The correct conditions for life must be out there, but probably not very close to where we are right now. If we do encounter other intellegent life forms in out quest for knowledge in space, it will probably be by accident. I hope and pray that whatever we may find is as benevolent as we are.

I think our planet sends plenty of radio signals into space. If there are other beings out there doing what we are doing, they might just detect us. But again, it seems pretty unlikely that we will ever meet them.

I run SETI@home because it makes me feel like I am taking part in this exciting thing. The charts are cool. The explainations of how it all works and the theory behind it all is quite interesting. I think it stimulates the imagination of us all.
