Profile: John Kreamer

Personal background
I am Retired USAF. No, I didn't fly planes; I flew desks and computers. I live in rural New Hampshire (I guess that is redundent). I enjoy science fiction, Issac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Arthur Clark, Gene Roddenberry, and of course Carl Sagan. I became a fan of Star Trek back with the original series and have followed all series and movies. I can only hope the new series does justice to Gene's memory.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have been a fan of Science and Science Fiction all my life. I watched the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo launches and missions. Followed the development and the Shuttle program and the ISS. I am not so conceited with myself or humans to think that we are totally unique. I beleive extraterrestrial life does exist, although not sure we have been visited (perhaps observed). I feel that it will still be some time before humans discover extraterrestrial life. In particular, unless they visit us, there will have to be a significant breakthrough in space sciences enabling us to travel the vast distances required for deep space exploration. The benefits to humans could only be great, however being an agressive specie, we will probably make the mistake of attacking or killing out of fear and ignorance. In spite of this fear, we should do everything possible to contact them.

Our space program needs to be developed to the point that commercial ventures will help with the capital needs for the R&D and construction. The ISS is a good starting point, but without development of large capacity, deep space vehicles, it will remain economically unfeasable for most commercial enterprises. A mission to Mars is a much needed mission, however we have Luna which we abandoned once we beat the old USSR. It is now time to go back to the Moon, establish a colony, and construct a lunching off point for deep space. For this we also need in space shuttles to ferry personnel and goods between the ISS and Luna Colony.

SETI@home is a great way to harness the power of countless computers that otherwise are just expensive paperweights. It assists in a fantastic project that some day WILL yield unbelievable results and discovery. SETI MUST CONTINUE. I believe in this project to the point that your link is included on all of my e-mail coorespondence.
