Profile: P1

Personal background
I'm a 40yr old programmer with 15 yrs of field experience. I was lured away from a sculpture fine arts degree by Infocom, the makers of Zork, Deadline and other text adventures games. The genre is still alive today, and became known as interactive fiction.

I have 5 computers at home crunching away at SETI now (March 2004). I have just bought a Pentium4 2.6 Ghz HT and overclocked it to 3.3Ghz to increase production. Current rate is 26.79 WU/day. Having joined the project late, I am crunching as fast as I can before phase 1 ends.

I come from a musical family. My dad is retired and now plays in an oldies band; at dance halls, community centres, and old age care centres. My grandmother was an elementary school music teacher.

My username P1 stands for Pentium 1, which is dedicated to my 233mhz which was my main workstation from '97 to '02.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
This is a grand undertaking of human exploration, using our newest tools - the Internet and personal computers. ( Cyber-exploration? ) As I am in the computer field, I am very concious of the fact that this is the first ever, global, massively scaled, public grid computing project. This is a first, and was never possible before.
