Personal background |
I'm 36 years old and living in The Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada.
Originally an auto mechanic, I switched to computers 16 years ago. I completed a college computer programming course and then my B.Sc. in Computer Science. I'm now a Senior Analyst for my regional government and I run my own consulting business (Tymar Computer Servces) in my spare time. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
The SETI@home project was an unprecedented distributed computing project. The application of computing resources on such a huge scale to solve a single problem is an interesting use of technology and a model for other distributing computing projects that have surfaced since the inception of this program.
I viewed it as an opportunity to use an otherwise wasted resource to forward a good cause. The notion that a piece of equipment isn\\'t using all of its potential seems wrong to me. I use every piece of equipment I own (computers, cars, stereo, etc.) to the limits of their design. Anything less would be a waste. :) |
