| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I first saw Seti@home on an overclocking site.
I run Seti@home to assist in a distributed processing
machine that is producing some extremely impressive results
in a $cost/FLOPs comparison.
I am not sure if there are little green men out there, but I believe
that it is a statistical improbability that this project will find any
trace of them. The odds of finding a signal that has taken eons to reach
Earth and happens to be from the short period of time that an alien
culture used the RF spectrum for communication are infinitesimally miniscule.
On the other hand, if you want to win the lottery, you have to buy a ticket. |
