Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Life must exist elsewhere. The question is, is it too far away to be noticed soon?
A great author (asimov/clarke?) said "There are two possibilities: 1) there is no life out there. 2) There IS life out there. Both have staggering outcomes"

We can only hope that our radio broadcasts attract the attention of loving "want to give you all the technology to make your lives wonderful" as opposed to the BEMs (Bug Eyed Monsters) out to have human sandwiches.

I run SETI because the american government is too busy making money, and making worthless things into money(drugs) to care about a project that is unlikely ever going to show a "profit". Even if we do discover aliens, it will be a LONG time before we can actually gain anything tangible. The government and big business has no REASON to help SETI outside of appeasing voters. As soon as they are in office, they could care less. If it wasn't for the home users devoting their wasted CPU cycles to this project, it would never be done.
