I'm a 44 year Dane living in Charlotte US. I joined Set@HOme in the early days since I've always thought that there had to be something out there, and this could be my small contribution to maybe find something.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, there most definately is something out there, It might not be something we recognize, or understand, but to believe the we are the sole living beings in a universe so large, would be unthinkable.
We could try an be more active in making us noticed, but I don't think our technology has reached a level where it would benefit anything. If we transmitted a signal now, it would take so long to reach anyone/anything that it doesn't make sense. However once we are more able technologically, we should take action.
I find that a project that uses spare computertime, to something that some people finds relevant is a brilliant idea. This was my original idea behind downloading the screensaver. It's still my main reason for keeping it. I'm not sure I believe this is the way we are going to find anyone, but if I can support somebody's work, but using my PC's "downtime" then I'm happy to do so.
