1) I really think that extraterrestrial life exist, though I do not know when and how we'll find it. The problem could just be that we search the in a wrong way, or the wrong thing. We are to tied to a specific idea of life: the one we have here on the Earth. It might be that we already met another form of life, but we didn't recognize it!!
2) Yes, sendinf information could be a way to attract the attention. What informtion? Well, few things, very simple and schematic
