| Personal background |
| Where most people would think I came from the depths of Hades, I'm really from the middle of the United States. I am currently a 24-year-old IT professional, with intents for practical causes. My main interests in the IT field is network security, and the upcoming biological engineering. Other interests include producing bio-mechanical art, manipulating theories, and making people realize how anything is possible. If it's not possible then it's not real. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Extraterrestrial life, and a co-existance of another human race is more than fact. Some of the things around the Earth that have been left unexplained, has only come up with one theory, that there was another type of race out there. The Mayan calander being one, the array of star maps made before the start of the 5th century, and the perfection of many Egyptian structures.
Sending a signal to probe for "possibles", is only the beginning. Chosing what to transmit after that is crutial. Using universal languages would be our only answer. Need it be audio signals sent in a sequence, to base-10 code to form equations. Without such, communication would be difficult.
Just about 80% of the world owns at least 1 PC, and at least 12% own more than one system of some type. A lot of people like to stay up to date with their hardware, and this "in my opinion" is usually wasted. During the time of "wasted" resources, some should be done to compensate for that. Not one better thing to make up for it than SETI@home. I'm not sure that most people think that far ahead when thinking about finding other life in this universe we live in. We have done so much to this planet, that it would be very difficult with our technology to continue on. Finding another intellegent species, could be the key to our survival. In such an achievement, the secret should not be held back. We need to know what is being done. In our rumored past, upon finding such a thing, we immediatly treat them as lab-rats. Not a good way to communicate.
Other than to try to get other mainframes to process work units, people need to try to recruit new members even if their system is not the most recent of technology. If you ever think your WU time is bad, remember there are people out there who are so dedicated they spend 96 hour per single work unit. I guess, in a way, I spend my money on SETI rather than a primary purpose of "upgrading". The more power, the more Work Units. The more Work Units, the closer we get to closure. |
