I'm a research scientist in the school of education at the University of Michigan. In my spare time I compose electronic music, play hockey and read about astronomy.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've seen pursuasive arguments both for and against the likelihood of extraterrestrial life. Weighing these arguments, the odds that such life exists seem about equal to me. I run seti@home for a couple of reasons. First, I am a great believer in research and despite the very long odds of the investigators actually detecting ET life, I laud them for trying. I also like to support the very clever distributed computing method the investigators are using to analyze their data.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
