Personal background
I am from Southern Illinois. I graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a bachelor of arts, Computer Science major, Math minor. I moved to Atlanta, GA in 1983 and lived there for 17 years. While there I worked for nearly 10 years for an international life insurance company as a computer programmer and systems analyst. In 1995 I retired on disability due to a serious illness. I moved back to Southern Illinois in 2000, where I purchased my first home.

During my retirement I have spent free time travelling, taking classes in writing, acting, and pottery. I also like to read, play the piano, and work in my garden. Lately I have begun to learn web development as I maintain and redesign the website for my church.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have a hard time believing that the Human species is the only intelligent life in the cosmos. When I consider the fractal nature of the physical universe, I can't help but believe that intelligence occurs on fractal orders of magnitude: quantum to macro to cosmo. To me, this is where I begin to experience the mystery of God.

The SETI is an important indeavor. It is just a matter of time before we discover ET life, even intelligent life, and vice-versa. I believe we are already sending out a beacon: we broadcast radio and television constantly. Given the content of our transmissions, who knows what ETI would think of us. We should definitely send out a beacon specifically for the ETI audience, partially in the form of a disclaimer...

I am impressed with the SETI@home project, now that I have seen it and begun to participate. It was incredibly easy to get started. I find myself keeping tabs on the program to see when I can fetch another block of data to analyse. Every time I see the graphic which reflects the work being done on my machine I can't help but shout "ET: Come to ME!!!"

I feel honored to lend my machine to this incredible cosmological project.
