Personal background
Hello all,

If you are reading this then i got to some1 out there!!!

I come from a small island called The Kingdom of Bahrain, a place of sea, sun, surf and PC's!!!!!!

I have been using PC's ever since i was 4 years old and as of today the 15th of March 2002 i am 22 years old so that means i have been behind these keyboards and screens (TV's) for about 18 years!!!!.

My first time with a PC was a spectrum *sigh* that was a nice little machine. I had to connect it to a TV and a cassette player for it to work! My first game played was called "Ski-ing" and ever since then i have been an addict to these machines.

CUrrently i am using an Athalon XP 1800 with 512 DDR ram to run seti in CLI mode and have a monitor watching whats going to inform me of any interesting findings. I am hoping to average 4 hours a unit with this current set up.

On my Athalon i have taken the side pannels off the tower to allow for better air transfer. I am hoping that will also improve the cooling on the processor to save a seconds per unit...those few seconds might be the difference between 6 and 8 units processed a day ?? (who knows) any other suggestions you guys have to improve processing time will be more then appreciated.

I have another ID (BH7 - Ketracel White) runing on a p3 750 laptop with 256 sdr ram and that used to average about 10 hours i am hoping that since i have switched to cli on that machine too it will drop down to about 6 hours?? A bit too much you think? well i dunno but that faster it works the better for us all.

Enough about me lets talk about seti......so why dont you scroll down and read what i have written there... thanks :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Question 1.

Of course they are out there! Why do you think we watch Star Trek? How do you think they got the idea's for Star Trek??? I am sure they are out there somewhere waiting for us to find them. I have no idea when we will be lucky enough to meet them. If i am lucky and we ALL work as hard as we can to process units then we can MAYBE i will know about them in my life time!

When we discover them not IF but WHEN we do then way we look at life will change, and hopefully that will be for the best and all of mankind will benefit from having proof that we are not alone!

Question 2.

Sending a beacon out there will allow us to increase the chance of meeting other forms of life. If we are to send a beacon into space we should send more then 1 beacon space is a big place and we need to cover as much of it as we can! We should transmit details of who we are, where we are from and that we are looking for friends so we are not so alone out here in space.

Question 3.

Why am i running seti? Well that should be clear by now but if it not then in a short phrase "i want to help prove they are out there".

My views about seti@home? Its one of the best projects on the net and everyone should download seti and run it.

Suggestions?

I think all of you who have read this should help promote seti at your schools, offices, towns, cities countries whereever you are...if you get just one more person to join then thats one more person to help in the cause.
