Profile: David Goldman, Jr.

Personal background
My name is David Goldman, Jr.

While in college, I worked at Texas Instruments at night and transferred to the
computer sciences department upon graduation (BA Math, 1959). I worked as a
computer programmer/systems analyst for TI, myself and a small consulting firm
in Dallas until 1964. At that time, I went to work for the RAND Corporation
in Santa Monica, Calif. learning digital simulation. In 1967, I went to work
for Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis in the data services division.
By 1971, I suffered "burnout" with computers and quit CDC, vowing never to
touch another computer. I entered law school and graduated in 1974 from SMU.
In the late '80s, one of the Dallas County judges who was strongly into
computers put together a 286 for me and I've been hooked ever since on my
computer. I have built and upgraded several computers since then. I later
got one of my sons interested in computers and he is now a supervisor in the
tech support dept at Mobil/Exxon. He too has built several computers and
did it as a side job for a couple of years.

I have 1 wife, 4 children, and 6 1/2 grandchildren (as of this writing).

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. YES! A possible danger is transmission of an unknown disease from
or to the ET's. The advantages a many, beginning with sharing of medical
and scientific information. I would also like to if ET has a religious
tradition comparable to the Judaic/Christian tradition.

2. YES! We should transmit numerically encoded info about the human race,
where we are located and how to contact us (give them my phone number and
email address or, better yet, give them my street address)

3. I want to help find and contact ET. I think that will be the greatest
occurence since the birth/death of Jesus Christ. As for the project, I am
very excited about being a part of and firmly believe SETI will be
successful. I do not know enough about the technical aspects of SETI to
make suggestions for change or improvement.
