Personal background
G'day, I always have trouble writing things about myself, as I am just an average bloke, so let's make it a short one: I am Tom and I live in sunny Brisbane/Australia. My interests are science fiction/fantasy novels, Formula 1, homebrewing and computers. Since I was a child, I was fascinated by everything "spacy" and this fascination lasted until the present time.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I heard about the Seti@Home project when it was still in its beta phase and signed up pretty much right after it started back in May 1999. I strongly believe, that there's other lifeforms out there, be they more or less advanced than we are. I Personally think it is a sign of arrogance to claim that we are the be all, end all. Just look how many stars there are in the "known" universe and even if only a fraction of them has planets, that could support life as we know it, the chances are pretty high, live developped there as well. Then there's may be forms of life we can't imagine as it is completely different from what we are used to.
It would be great to live to see the day we make contact, in what ever form it may be. Will we ever get have an "official" close encounter? I am not talking about UFOs abducting people or stuff like that, but a official landing of alien spacecraft? I don't know, maybe some more advanced civilisation has managed to bypass the physical limits we know or should I say we think we know? Maybe one day we will be able to travel between the stars, who knows. Until then, I want to take part in the great search ...
