Personal background
Well, I will be a freshmen in the fall of 2003 at CSU Chico as a Computer Science major. I have been a Star Trek fan for as long as I can remember, and when SETI came out I signed up with an old, slow computer. I have just recently created a new profile (not remembering my old username or password). I even run my own sim based on today's CIA. So for an imaginative name, its called Star Trek: CIA.
I have also been a fan of Real Life Comics for over a year, and read the comic every day!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well, I see three questions, so I see three answers coming.
1) Yes, I do believe that extraterrestrial life exists. I have no idea when we will meet them, I just hope soon, sometime in my lifetime. It just does not make seance for us to be the only be in this void. Humans may react scared for awhile, but I think we will get over that. Some dangers I see is the alien race giving us technology we are not ready for.
2) Yes, I think should transmit a beacon for others to find. I think the message should include a little about us, how we have changed, and some of our history. Just enough to get someone's attention.
3) I run SETI because I have always loved Star Trek, and this to me seems like making part of that world real. "Searching out new life and civilizations."
