Personal background
I'm John Davis. Aka Scooter. I'm a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, fullfilling my dream of playing in the skies and argueing with the stars. I started running Seti on Walter, my main computer, shortly before I left North Carolina for college in Florida; once there, I made it into a sort of community project for the residence hall, loading it onto every machine i repaired or maintained as a sort of service charge, since we're poor college students and I can't charge money. At least a dozen of my peers here have agreed to help, and i post the milestone certificates all over the hall and on the participants' doors.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that extraterrestrial life exists. I don't know that we'll ever find it, but if we do, we'll stumble on it instead of digging it out of a hole on a moon somewhere. We could benefit from such a discovery by at least being able to excercise our latin in attempting to classify something new... or we could kill it by mistake. As for a transmitted signal... not worth our time, we can't make anything powerful enough.
