Personal background
I am from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In addition to searching for extraterrestrial life, my interests include economics, politics, and studying the social implications of the Internet.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe extraterrestrial life exists, not necessarily intelligent. Humans may find evidence of life (past, not present) on Mars, but not elsewhere in the solar system.

I do not believe humans will discover life outside our solar system any time in the next 1,000 years, unless the other life discovers us first.

Humans should be cautious about transmitting any beacons for other intelligent lifeforms to find. It is unreasonable to assume that other intelligent life would be friendly, so lets not be hasty to send out "your lunch is ready" messages to strangers.

Humans consume the meat of many other animals on earth, what is to say a more intelligent species would not see us in a manner like the one in which we see cows, pigs or chickens.

I run SETI@home because I enjoy participating in projects of this sort, using distributed computing technology. And, on the off-chance intelligent life is found outside our solar system, that's a bonus too.
