Extraterrestrials may be good to eat, should we find any. A little bearnaise sauce, a nice glass of chateau margaux '59, gazing lovingly into my spousal unit's light detection organs, as we nibble the nine delicious pseudopods of a tax lawyer from Betelgeuse IV... mmm, bon appetit.
We should send a beacon with a message along the lines of "hi, this is Earth, please come visit as we'd like to have you for dinner". This would be one sure test to see if there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. Not that there's any here on Earth, for that matter.
The best thing about SETI@home is that screensaver looks pretty cool. People think I'm really smart when they see it working away on my computer screen. I tell them I wrote the software to calculate the next winning lottery number. I need this validation to compensate for, well, ...many, many issues.
