Profile: Brian K. Beaulieu

Personal background
I am orriginally from Victoria British Columbia Canada. From there I moved (with family) all over Western Canada as a youngster finally ending up in Calgary Alberta where I have been for the past 12 years. Here I Finished my post secondary education in the social sciences and have been an archaeologist for the past 6 years. Most of my work involves salvage archaeology of Great Plains pre-historic native sites and early historic sites.
Hobbies include a wide variety of mind and body activities including hockey, hiking, computers, reading and everything inbetween. I believe one must keep both an active mind and body and that variety is the spice of life.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As for extraterrestrial life... of course. I believe mathematically the odds are there is something else out there. As well, I believe in it romantically. It would just be very interesting if there was.
I have no idea if we will ever discover e.t. and we will only find the benefits or dangers when and if we do, but as for possible dangers, we all remember the Andromeda Strain.
I don't think we should transmit bacon, what if the aliens are vegitarian? What... Oh, sorry, that says 'beacon'. Well then yes, of course, by all means. As well it should contain as much information about where we are, who we are, and what we are as the beacon will contain.
Why do I run SETI@home? I am going to run a screen saver anyway and why not have one that does a little more than just flash neat pictures accross my desktop. Also the whole concept of connecting thousands of computers together for research is a very good one and something that should be done more often, as well, I feel like I am part of the process. Finally, I run it because I hope my computer is the one that discovers the evidince of extraterrestrial intelligence. Wouldn't that make a great conversation starter!?!
