Personal background
I'm a boy from Germany born in 1982. I live in the city of Leipzig where composers and writers like Bach and Goethe (to name only two) had lived and worked.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really think that there is life outside our own little planetary system. If you imagine the number of stars in our universe that we can see (or not) it's hard to believe that we are the only intelligent lifeform existing. Maybe some other intelligent races are already watching us, but hide themselves out of sight until we get peaceful and intelligent enough for a "first contact" - and then we will benefit from it.
However it's still worth a try to search for extraterrestrial life and also to send out a beacon for others to find us. I think the Voyager project made a good start and we should continue sending out examples of our cultural life and technological progress. But more important is the proofe of a peaceful world with all its cultures living together in harmony.
I'm running SETI@home to find extraterrestrial life. But it's more than that - it's a first step to a more peaceful world, because users from almost any nation on the world are participating in this project and even if we find nothing we benefit from the growing unity between the different users of SETI@home.
