Personal background
I'm an ex-pat Brit, married to a US lady and living in Portland, OR, after a couple of years spent in Central Texas. Oregon is a lot more like my native England!

The photo is me at the top of the Sarenne glacier in my beloved French Alps.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Does it exist? It's mathematically naive to think not! I think we can be hopeful that any race technologically advanced enough to travel interstallar distances must have outgrown the petty squabbles to which homo sapiens are still subject. I can't help but think that if all the money in the world that was being spent on killing each other, and finding better ways to do so, was spent on space research, then Star Trek would be a reality in my lifetime. I feel cheated!

2) Should we transmit a beacon. Sure. If the beings capable of responding are indeed benign, it would only be to our advantage.

3) Why run SETI@home? Just glad to help.
