Personal background
Hi i'm french, i live near Bordeaux. I'll be 19 on november 2002, 21rd.

I'm keen on astronomy (i want to be astrophysicist), piano, railroad maodelism, computers, DYA (Do It Yourself, "bricolage" in french). I'm also interested by sciences and technologies in general.

My mottos are "cool toujours" (always cool) and "l'espoir fait vivre" (where there's life there's hope) ; i always apply them and it rules!!!

I'm in second year of DEUG SM (Diplome d'études Universitaires générales en Sciences de la Matière, degree in sciences of the matter) to prepare a BS and a masters in physics, then a DEA (Diplome d'Etudes Approfondies, i don't know the english word but i translate : 'diploma for detailed studies') and at last a Ph.D in astrphyisics.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life exists, that's why i have installed SETI@home on my computers. In fact we can't say when we'll discover extraterrestrial signs because we can't see the future. Also i've seen on the magazine Ciel&Esapace of July 2002 that the probables signs could be stopped by Hydrogen nebulas between the source and us, that could explain the difficulty to find those famous signs....
If we receive signs from ETs that would be a great luck because we could compare technologies, ways of life, ...... As for me, now we can't talk about dangers.

As i said upper, it would be a big benefit to be in contact with other civilations for the technologies. I know we yet do that with the probes Voyager 1&2 for instance (there is a message on each one) : we have given the position of Solar system in the galaxy. Before sending informations with radiotelescopes, we have to wait to discover planets which could provide life. We'll be able to do that soon with the technologies in developpement.

I run SETI@home because i think that is a banal thing which allows the science to progress. I used that for a presentation on "the astronomy today" last year as an application of radioastronomy and it had succes. I've seen that the idea of SETI@home has been applied to the decriptage of human genome and other things, so we can say that this project is a succes except that there are few probables ET signs.
I haven't enough knowledge in radioastronomy or in extrabiology to have good suggestions for the project...
