Profile: Cosmic Ray

Personal background
I am an unabashed believer in the reality of extraterrestrial life, and I don't mind admitting that I am convinced UFOs are a proven fact (but I don't think all of them are alien spaceships, necessarily), that alien abduction is a real phenomenon (though I'm not as convinced that the memories of the abductees under hypnosis are real), that cattle mutilations are real events, and crop circles are very real and very ancient phenomenon (but of course there are a lot of people faking them for money now, in a strange case of art immitating life). I'm encouraged by the bright future of the SETI Project, and proud that the data from this project is also being used to further such endeavors as the search for pulsars, quasars, and dying black holes, and to map the hydrogen of our galaxy. It's absolutely amazing that the data from the SETI@home Project has also been used to search for candidate Dyson Spheres around ancient stars, I never thought I would see such an ambitious search begun in my lifetime, it always seemed like science fiction. I am excited the project is expanding to include more signal criteria, a wider frequency range, greater resolution, a broader sky survey, more targeted searches, and signals from the Parkes Observatory in Australia.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think life reaches out for life, minds for minds, to know that we are not alone under the oppressive weight of infinite space, not rejoicing our victories or mourning our sorrows in a cold dead universe by ourselves, not doomed to be the only people in the universe to talk to, or the only light of life to shine in the infinite deadness of the void. To reach out we must utilize all of our faculties of heart, mind, and spirit, and use our great inventions to their fullest potential to probe the cosmos for the chance to feel the heartbeat of creation if only for one great moment. I believe what we are doing here, all of us who contribute our computers to this project, is going to forever change the world, and help us all to realize that we are small fish in an infinite ocean of life and that is exactly as it should be.
