Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I joined SETI early 2000. Running the program at spare time only.

There is no doubt at all! Of course "they" are there! Look at the sky, what you see is only a very, very small portion of what is out there!
Realize that we still are looking around into the sky, with the eyes of a homo sapiens, many 1.000 years ago looking around his own habitat! It took us many 1.000 years to find new worlds, on our own planet!

If "they" are "near" us, our own history learns, that it is much better that we find them first!
I realize finding "them" can take many, many years, but I do not see any harm looking for "them", who ever "they" are.
If we find any sign, then it is time to start the discussion, whether we should transmit a beacon or not. Realizing that it would take a very long time, to reach them.
I wish you all the best.
