Personal background
I'm a 39yr-old male who now serves as the editor of Vmyths, a critically acclaimed website that debunks computer security hysteria. My computer experience dates back to 1981 when I worked for a newspaper; my programming experience began in 1982 when I joined the Air Force; and my virus experience dates back to 1988 when I linked up with the author of the first true antivirus software. My wife & I abandoned the city life a couple of years ago. We built a high-tech home in a small Iowa town, ironically near a large Amish community.

Like any true geek, I make a hobby out of testing computer security theories. I designed the network in my house to business specs just to support my current antivirus project. It added roughly $10k to my mortgage and $5k to my credit card -- so you could easily say I suffer for my hobby. (My wife certainly suffers for it.)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The statistical odds support life elsewhere. I embrace SETI@Home because it seeks a truly academic goal rather than a commercialized goal (e.g. pharmaceutical research). SETI exemplifies the noble human desire to learn; the @Home project gives us a chance to pool unused computing resources.

I founded the Computer Virus Myths team for those who want to show solidarity in the fight against security hysteria.
