Personal background
I first became interested only a few days ago when I was looking through a CD that comes with my APC magazine and discovered this great idea of making use of some very idle time that computers seem to have. I now have also installed the same program on my work computer and as I'm out on the road 6 out of the 8 hours a day and what a great way for an idle computer to be used.
I am extremly interested in what could exist and quite possible does exist in the endless infinety of the universe and beyond.
Living in Melbourne Australia is quite some way from the Radio Observatory picking up these signals.
Working in Customer Service for Local Government, enjoying cycling, gym, spending time at the beach with my wife and walking my dog, enjoying time with my 4 children and my grandson are a few of my favourite pass times.
The wonders of the Net and it's wonderous ever renewing possibilities are awesome.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes I think somewhere, some place out there extraterrestrial life does exist and it will take, I think, quite some decades more maybe even a century before we discover it.
Dangers are always present, if contact is made in that they, may be a very dominent and war making beings. Although on the other hand they may be peaceful beings trying as we are to make contact with other intelligent life forms.
No I don't think we should transmit a beacon until we know what we are transmitting to.
I run SETI@home as I feel that I am helping in a small way like a link in a chain to "seek out and go where no man has gone before".
