Profile: Mike Morton

Personal background
I am 37 years old and I live in Independence, Missouri -- Harry Truman country. I work for the Social Security Administration as a Post-Entitlement Technical Expert. I am also a CompTIA A Plus Certified Computer Technician. In my spare time, I build personal computers and small computer networks. I also upgrade and repair computer systems and install many different operating systems. I am also currently working on a few Internet projects.

I have a great admiration for Dr. Carl Sagan. I've read several of his books and I own the entire "Cosmos" collection on DVD, which is an absolute masterpiece. I believe there's been no other scientist in history, who introduced more about the field of science to the "ordinary" people of the world. Dr. Sagan is truly a legend.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe extraterrestrial life exists, without a doubt. However, I also believe that it probably exists in one of many different types of life and probably not very similar to life on Earth. It is possible however, that intelligent life, capable of communication by some means, certainly does exist somewhere in the cosmos. I feel that communication with extraterrestrial beings will most likely be sent and received in the form of a radio transmission. There's no doubt that we should be sending radio signals into space, I see no reason not to. I run the SETI@home screen-saver program because I want to be involved in something I believe in. There will be a day when someone will discover a signal that is not of Earth origin. I certainly hope that happens in my lifetime!
