Personal background
Hi :¬)
Personal Background? Well, having been a computer person for 22 years (gulp) and someone who "likes to look up" all my life, SETI fits well into my mindset.
Living in the UK (and thanks to the other members of the 'gang' - who have given me permission to use the spare time on their desktop's - cheers guys:
Larraine; Shawn; Liz; Pete making up the LMSLP Gang!) although I am now fast-approaching the infamous '40-something' stage in my life I believe that I still havent lost my sense of wonder at the World.

Likes - talking to people (or just talking, after all I am Welsh and those of you who may have met a Welsh person have probably encountered our talkative nature first hand!); Science; Nature (I live just below a Wood, half wy up a mountain); discovery and ancient greek philosophers. Did I mention Astronomy and clubbing (yup!) as well??

Dislikes - intolerance; the glorification of stupidity; 'junk mail'; wedding speeches ;o)

Hopes - one day we can actually figure out that working collaboratively makes the World a better place (hmm, I'm not holding my breath).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
3. Its [scientific] aspirations and [social] benefits make SETI, in my humble opinion, one of the true great human experiments of modern times. More personally, it demonstrates to me that, despite the woes and challenges to humanity, millions of people Worldwide all want to share in something - an amazing (and in retrospect) humbling experience which I never tire of!
- 1 suggestion - explain to people that the GUI version sucks up to 80% of the processing power - that way you could cut out the 1,000,000, or so who have to do a second download, when they realise why they contribute a WU every 50hours!

1 - OF COURSE extraterrestrial life exists. I cannot conceive a how people think otherwise given the sheer size of the Universe,
why discover it? Why invent anything/seek anything/ heck - lets all go back to living in caves if we turn our backs on discovery! How are we gonna discover it? Through persistence. The benefits - maybe it will transorm the myopia of many of the 'sects' of the World (not just religous) if humanity can beput into perspective. Dangers? there are always dangers in life - they are the challenges that make life so interesting!

2 - Yes. Something inately 'humanistic' as we cannot have ANY concept of what format would be relevant to alien civilisation (but please, not the "Spice Girls" ;)
