Profile: Andrew Mathews

Personal background
My humble beginnings start back in Illinois. I decided to try childhood initially before moving
on to an adolescent, then early adulthood, midlife and now back to adolescent. I'm going to let
my 401k decide what I'll be when I grow up. I made the mistake of letting my hobby become my
occupation, thus I now spend the majority of my time working with networks and computers. I developed
an intense fascination with UNIX based machines, specifically SGI Irix. UNIX gives me continual
reassurance that there is a God and he has sent his sons Linus, Maddog, Alan and Ted to us to make us
better people. When the end comes we'll be able to say we knew Perl, Python, and bash, and we'll be
given a pass to the front of the line. Or at least a free CCIE certification.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that only our limited knowledge withholds the many amazing things yet to be discovered,
whether it be extra-terrestrial life, the age of the universe, or how to make really good souffles
with a microwave and muffin mix. I believe any contribution that we make, no matter how small, is
valuable and will help everyone to achieve a higher level of knowledge and understanding.
