SETI@home is a wonderful project. In addition to searching for extraterrestrial life, it gets the general public involved with the search. The more public this project is, the more support it will get (along with more criticism).
I truly believe that intelligent extraterrestrial life exists, simply because the possiblity is too great to believe otherwise. Of all the planets orbiting all the suns in all the galaxies we can't be the only life in this universe. I believe we should do all we can to detect life on other planets, as well as sending a signal out for them to locate us with.
