Profile: Duane

Personal background
Duane L. Anderson graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1980 with a BScEE. He worked 3 years in the research and development of microprocessor-based oil field instrumentation, and one year developing power system instrumentation. He worked three years as principal designer of high-speed VLSI Tech test equipment. He worked five years as Senior Engineer/Project Engineer/Project Manager with a major manufacturer of VMEbus-based military computers. In 1989, he founded Edgewater Computer Systems, Inc. with the goal of developing deterministic real-time computer systems based up upon open system standards.

Mr. Anderson has been an active participant in computer research and standards development by organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He provides research and development consulting services to clients, in Canada and United States, who require assistance to produce high-performance multi- processor systems. He taught a graduate level class in high-performance computer architecture, at the Royal Military College Kingston, Ontario. He carried out Edgewater's extensive analysis of IEEE Std-896.1-1992 (Futurebus ) and an analysis of IEEE Std- 1596-1992 (Scalable Coherent Interface, SCI) for the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND). He also designed and wrote the original proposed draft SCI for Real-time Applications (SCI-RT) standard, also for the DND, and assisted the DND establishing the IEEE P1596.6 (SCI-RT) Working Group (WG). He assisted DND and the US Navy in their P1596.6 WG activities.

Currently, Mr. Anderson is leading an effort for the US Air Force to develop high-performance real-time network solutions for avionics applications. In addition, Mr. Anderson continues to assist other clients with similar problems and he is intent upon expanding Edgewater’s offerings from services to products.
