Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know if extraterrestial life exists, I assume it. I don't think life is unique to earth alone, but it might as well be that life has unimaginable ways of existing, so maybe we don't know it when we see/hear it.
When and how is not to me to forecast. Benefits: knowledgeincreasement, dangers: unknown diseasetransmitters or plain hostility (although very unlikely - only in the mind of mankind)
We should do the utmost possible to reach out and let other life know we exist and try to find it ourselves. Like with the SETI@home project. Info to send: music, language, photographs, mathematical formulas etc.
I run SETI@home for the fun of it: the slight excitement to add to te possibility of finding new life, to actually participate in stuff generated by those faraway places I wanna go sometimes (I've got Arecibo!)
