Personal background
55F, chemist, longtime student of the martial arts, life on this planet and elsewhere in this universe (& others). A devout trekkee and one time neighbor of Arecibo, this project fascinates me. Flying over the plain of Nazca as a child did much to convince me that "we are not alone"
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course I believe extraterrestial life exists. Musings and meditation have taken me to both sides of this equation. The beneficial and dangerous implications are both educational and entertaining. Ray Bradbury's "Martians Chronicles" are not without merit ... both the ancients and the pilgrims were defining a new order. If we really do make contact, will there be enough of us capable of thinking clearly, learning new modes of communication quickly enough to recognize friend vs foe to effectively use what we learn? I truly hope so, for both our sakes.
