Profile: Bill Turley

Personal background
I am a writer/researcher for the hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy and somehow got trapped on this mostly harmless planet and am without communication facilities. I am hoping to leverage your technology to receive possible instructional messages from home - a small planet somewhere in vicinity of Betelguese.
Or I could be just a mostly harmless programmer with a lot of overly powerful equipment for my requirements and just lending a hand.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is unreasonable to assume that our somewhat average solar system is unique in that it would be the only one which supports life. I personally believe that confirmation of intelligent ET will be discovered indirectly in the form of intercepting radio, laser, or some as yet unknown form of communication. The benefits of such a discovery would far exceed the dangers, of which I count none, as it would be a consciousness expanding experience with profound effects on the way we view ourselves. The knowledge of other civilizations would contribute to an overall shift in the focus of our collective values and belief systems away from the mundane and cause some of current problems seem insignificant. Also, being a competitive species, I could see us engaging in an effort to "clean-up" our act as we wouldn't want to appear less intelligent than our new found friends.
