Personal background
I'm a 43 year old IT teacher at a small school in England
Formerly I was a science teacher and my degrees are in IT and in science
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am 99.9999999999% certain that ET life exists
We may make contact at any time today or millenia in the future
I believe the benefits will include a better understanding of our place in the cosmos and I subscribe to the hypothesis that the dangers are few as it is unlikely that a civilization capable of interstellar travel is still in a state where its desires are acquisitory and malevolent.
Definitely we should be sending out messages to the stars - if only to combat the wrong impressions any receivers of signals may gain from the numerous soap episodes fanning out into the universe :)
I thought that joining in this project would be a useful way to use the time that my PC would otherwise use for spinning round my holiday snaps and besides maybe the signal we are waiting for is actually in the data my PC may process tonight.
