Profile: EvoDude

Personal background
I am a 47 year old Scot living in East Lothian. I have recently taken early retirement after 30 years with the same company. I am now enjoying a lazy lifestyle with thrills coming from my Mitsubishi Evo VI. Worked with computers for about 10 years but usually under a strictly controlled network system with little room to play. Now I have time to spare I am spending more time with the interesting side of the Internet.
I play guitar, badly, for relaxation with music tastes ranging from Pink Floyd, through Eagles, Bob Dylan, and any EASY to play folk/rock/country.
PC gaming is normally Car Racing or Shoot-em-ups with current favourite Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Heard about SETI@home a while back but didn't have the facilities to progress it. It is a great idea, something highlighted by the considerable number of members.
I think that extraterrestrial life must exist considering the vast size of the universe. For all the mass contained within the universe to produce just one planet capable of sustaining carbon-based life forms is almost ludicrous.
When we will discover it is impossible to predict but at least we have started looking! There is so much area to cover and so little being done that it is the proverbial needle in a haystack. Benefits and dangers I don't think too much about 'cos they will find us whether we look for them or not.
I imagine, with the volume of radio traffic being emitted from Mother Earth, there is no need to send out a beacon.
I run SETI@home because I believe in the search for ETI. If I can help then that is even better - so often I feel on the outside of a subject that must interest all members. Keep plugging away - I can't imagine what you could do to improve the world's view of our search, other than the obvious - discover a definite identifiable signal!!!
