Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think we'd be idiots to assume we are the only life in the universe. My feeling is that direct contact will probably be the way we discover it. I also feel that we are being 'watched' right now. When we learn how to take care of ourselves, ie poverty, hunger, violence abolished is when that contact might be made.

As far a a 'beacon' goes, I think we should send the kind of regular data we are looking for ourselves..... perhaps straight whole number sequences, interspersed with small data packets describing our system in planetary sizes ... a 'map', if you will, to confirm our identity to extra-terrestrial astronomers.

I am using seti@home to do my part to help the search. I don't understand much of what is being looked for right now, but if I can help the effort in even the smallest of ways, then maybe the search will be that much shorter.
