Personal background
Backyard astronomer from Texas, I've believed from an early age that we are not alone in this Universe and am so glad that SETI found a way for novices like me to be involved in the search to find life beyond Earth. I just know that the signal is going to be found. I'd just be grateful if it's in my lifetime.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There's never been a doubt in my mind that other intelligent life exists beyond our planet, and I believe that searching for sound and light transmission is the key to finding it. I really don't want to see us sending out any other transmission. I think the TV transmissions will do fine for now, any other civilization smart enough to respond will do so for good or bad. We need to remember that our right and wrong could be just for our species and other civilization could have there own thoughts. I run SETI on five of my computers because I want to be involved in the search even if only in a small way...it's makes me feel involved and doing something positive toward something I truly believe in. I think the team that came up with this concept is brilliant and has started something that can benefit not only the search or ET, but also help crunch data to find medicines and cures for diseases and really, about anything the mind can imagine.
