Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
We certainly are not alone in the vast quantum of space. Humans have always been explorers with an affinity for knowledge. I share these traits as many of you do. While exploring it is prudent to keep a high posture of awareness for the unknown. First contact may come about sooner if we sent beacons, it however would not be a safe thing to do. I believe we should not send signals of invitation which could lead to harvest. We may not be capible of a vigulent watch at our current technology. Our planet is not in stelth mode by any means, we emit signals from VLF thru Light. Some of the signals we emit are already dangerous, these are the signals of active radio telemetry that pound huge signals into space. Fortunately these signals are not of a continuous nature which loweres thier probability of intercept. Societies and cultures taking the great effort to seek out earths natural emissions and man made emissions of pollution such as radio and light would more likely be those interested in technology and sociology. I am a scientific type and feel the SETI program is a great asset to man kinds search, exploration, and safety as we look to space. I don't feel the need to explain why I run SETI@home, look at it's popularity, you already know we are explorers.
