Profile: Dustin Deeks

Personal background
Hello!,

My name is Dustin Deeks(Age 25)and I live in the cultural mecca known as
Sacramento, California. This town is famous for absurdley hot summers,
gang shootings, auto theft, monster truck rallys, and mullets. On the up
side, rent is cheap and jobs are easy to come by. (will that be for here
or to go?)

In my spare time, I study Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at
C.S.U. Sacramento and work at the library performing the ever so important
function of Photoduplication Technician (I add paper and toner to copiers).
I have a special uniform replete with a bright red cape, superhero body suit, and bright red wrestling shoes. There is a large emblem on my chest that
proudly displays the letters "PD"....(this is a good point to stop this
string.)

As for hobbies, I like to make up absurd encryptions using silly math tricks
and torment my fellow coworkers with them. (C'mon man! Try to crack it!) These messages always end up being irritating and result in passive aggressive behavior from fellow coworkers. (One message decrypts into "youre special", another into "your mother is ugly") I also drink large quantities of wine with my friend Andy and debate theology, the nature of the universe, and it's reason of existence. I'm convinced that it's reason of existence is so that I can drink wine with my friend Andy and debate theology, the nature of the universe, and it's reason for existence.

I also like computers.

Regards,
Dustin

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
E.T. is real...I saw the movie....

Well anyways, I would like to think that extraterrestrial life exists, but I cannot say yes or no simply because we haven't seen any evidence to hypothesise in either direction. If we discover E.T.I., it will be using methods similar to this although perhaps scanning for some as of yet unknown means of communication. The benefits of finding ETI are numerous, including possible world unity due to the adversarial nature of humans (i.e. We have new competition, let's band together.) The dangers are easy to predict. There are several pseudoscientific and pseudoreligious groups out there that would claim detection of alien intelligence as some sort of prophecy fulfillment. This would create annoying fanatics and fanatical acts. (Jim Jones, David Koresh, Heaven's Gate, Aum Shinri Kyo,...)

As for transmitting a beacon, we already have and have been doing so for nearly a century in the form of radio waves. The information about our people has also been sent. We have long ago lost the choice of what we want others to know about us. They, if they exist, will make their own judgement calls.

I run SETI@home because it is a damned good idea to involve the general population in scientific research/discovery. This project should be emulated by other agencies/firms. I would suggest press releases about your idea to worldwide news agancies. (BBC, ITN, CNN,...)Who knows? We may find something.

Regards,
Dustin Deeks
