Profile: WeatherRat

Personal background
I am a Senior Programmer/Analyst for a utility company in Florida.
My specialties include network communications and process control
for Utilities on Disney property. Utilities include power generation
and distribution, potable water, waste water, natural gas, chilled water
hot water and compressed air.

I have always been interested in space exploration and manned space flight.
Scrapbooks were a hobby while growing up, with the oldest entry carrying
a date of 1958. I was born in southern Wisconsin but moved to Florida
during the Apollo era. My lust for computers began with in 1971 with
a CDC-3100 sporting 32K of core memory. Like many people I had a
Commodore-64 and probably wasted several years waiting for programs to
load or clearing paper jams. My first PC was a 90 Mhz Pentium which I
"pushed" to 100 Mhz.

I like a good beer and a cheap cigar.

My hobbies include computer, guitar, music, the weather and trying
to learn the German language. German?? Why German? I was inspired by a friend! However, the biggest incentive was a co-worker's comment that German "was too difficult" and I would never succeed. My studies,
such as they are, continue.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
"Foolish" and "Arrogant" are good words to describe someone that may feel
we are alone or perhaps at the "Center" of everything. Reaching outward is
equivalent to and just as important as looking inward. Who knows, perhaps
these two paths will someday meet.
